A 2013 full of blessings

In 2013, we saw the Lord working in each of the projects that we started in the ministry. He has been faithful.

There are some facts that we want to share with you about 2013, these are some things that God has allowed us to see:

· 10 girls graduated from the Institute, four from 6th grade, three from 9th grade, and three from their final year of high school!

· More than 80 boys registered at New Horizons receiving physical and spiritual food.

· 57 students in the Institute receiving spiritual and intellectual nourishment.

· There was a dinner with more than 60 people in attendance to introduce ReNuevos to more people.

· Recruiting of more than 50 leaders for the projects.

· The leaders have done an excellent job in the Bible studies, which brought as a result that more boys and girls commit themselves to the Lord.

· Two groups finished a 3D programming course, one group finished the first stage of a Photoshop course, and another group finished the first part of a basic computer skills course.

· More than 11 thousand plates of food were given in 2013 to the participants of the programs at ReNuevos.

   

A marvelous announcement:

Sunday, January 12 while making breakfast before leaving for church, I felt strong stomach pains. I had felt poorly for a few days, so we went to take a pregnancy test, which came out  positive. The next day we went to the doctor’s and saw the size of a small coin, the  pouch where Baby is being formed. It was incredible, these days have been incredible, the happiness can’t be contained in our hearts. This has been a marvelous surprise, it scared us, it made us anxious, but it also made too happy to even explain. We praise God for the gift of life, for knowing that God chose us to be the parents of this baby. Please pray for us, that God gives us wisdom and that we can be the parents that our son or daughter needs us to be, and that we can always teach him or her in His Word.

I have been a volunteer at New Horizons for a little more than a year, with the guys on Saturdays. And it goes without saying that I love the best place in the world: La Carpio and the people who live there.

This four day camp was the first camp I had been to in my whole life, and I went as a leader with the people that I love most– the “Carpians”. I was in charge of a cabin of six 10-year-old girls. I should admit that I was a little nervous because I had always worked with younger boys or with men and, well, my little “grasshoppers”, as they were called were a great challenge, and I had never seen them before. However, I should also confess that since we sat down to leave for camp on Thursday, we clicked, so much so that at the end of the first day I already loved them. If I wrote everything that I lived during

the camp, I could sincerely write a whole essay, but they asked me to write something small so I’ll focus on the questions that thye asked me the morning after returning from camp and expound upon my answers. These are the questions:          How do you feel after camp?

Happy and sad, I miss the boys and my girls and the close relationship we had. In spite of the exhaustion and the bruises, I could have gone on another 3 days.

What did you like most about camp?

I love working with boys and girls, becoming a little girl again, spending time with them and loving them, helping them to conquer their fears and be part of their story. I love that they confide in me and that I can support them and encourage them to believe that they can and will achieve what they desire.

What impacted you most about camp?

Definitely GOD, the manifestation and power of the Holy Spirit. I had never witnessed the strength of the  authority of prayer so much as I did in camp, and how God generated immediate fruits. Seeing how God used each leader and guided them to say the right thing to the right child at the right time without knowing the situation. Seeing how God used each situation to teach. Feeling the love of God so strong, so real, so present, so face-to-face. Seeing children renewed, broken, and forgiven by God and by themselves. Hearing a leader say, “one of my kids, he told me that he has come to know God.” That God cares for every detail to plant or prepare the soil in the life of each camper. It was all of this that really impacted me the most.
